Every LASIK procedure begins by creating a flap in the patient's cornea. Traditional LASIK makes use of an oscillating mechanical blade (a microkeratome) to cut the exterior of the eye and create the flap. The eye is then reshaped under the flap by a laser. This traditional approach to eye surgery, while still effective, is no longer considered the most successful procedure available to patients. By replacing the mechanical blade with a computer-guided laser, Dr. Reisman has introduced IntraLase® technology to his Morristown and Morris County, New Jersey patients, and now practices precision vision correction daily.

Results with IntraLase® - What Morristown patients should expect

During surgery, Dr. Reisman will guide the IntraLase® beam with computer software, and create a pattern within the cornea. The resulting flap will allow the doctor to later reshape the cornea with an excimer laser. Studies demonstrate that better vision is achieved with an all-laser flap since fewer secondary procedures are required and incidences of "dry-eye syndrome" are significantly less prevalent when IntraLase® technology is used. Morris County, New Jersey patients can recover from an IntraLase® all-laser procedure at the same rate as recovery from traditional LASIK, but studies suggest that laser-made flaps may heal at a more rapid pace than blade-created corneal flaps. After a procedure using IntraLase®, patients in Morris County, New Jersey can expect to achieve a degree of vision accuracy that is unparalleled.

Safety beyond compare - IntraLase® in Morristown, Morris County

Though surgical complications during LASIK are rare, the most common source of complications has been the blade used to cut the corneal flap. By eliminating the blade from LASIK surgery, IntraLase® gives doctors an exceptional level of accuracy and safety in the operating room. In addition, IntraLase® delivers a laser pulse to the cornea using lower vacuum pressure than the traditional microkeratome blade, thereby reducing the risk of corneal wrinkles and the likelihood of malformed corneal flaps.
